Guidelines:
Compensation will be per issue, not per submission. If one or more works are accepted, you will receive $15.
Please submit everything in doc/docx format.
Submissions must not already be published elsewhere, including itch.io and drivethrurpg. (If it’s online somewhere it’s published.)
Mixed Success retains first publishing rights, electronic rights, and the right to republish any issue in any medium that may include your submission. If your submission is published elsewhere, you must credit Mixed Success as the first publisher. By allowing Mixed Success to publish your submission, you are confirming that your work is completely original and does not violate any copyrights.
Accepted submissions must not be published elsewhere for one month after publication in Mixed Success Magazine. This includes itch.io and drivethrurpg.
All works will be linked to their respective store pages one month after publication.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Playbooks, Classes, and other works derived from existing IPs must follow copyright guidelines laid out by those IPs. Include a summary of how you followed the IP’s copyright guidelines.
No promotion of bigotry. Any works deemed to be hateful, demeaning, or undignified toward marginalized people will not be considered.
Keep it PG13. Cursing is fine, but smut and excessive gore will be rejected.
Please submit only once per genre per submission period.
Please submit for each genre in a separate email.

Character Studies:
No more than two pieces totaling 1000 words
Critique/Analysis/Article:
Contact Editor@MixedSuccess.com with your pitch. $.10-$.17 per word.
Fiction/Nonfiction:
No more than two pieces of 2500 words each.
Playbooks/Classes:
Must follow source game's copyright guidelines.
No more than five 8.5”x11” pages.
One piece per submission period.
Poetry:
Up to three poems no more than 30 lines each.
Setting Guides:
No more than one piece totaling 2500 words.
Work based on existing settings must follow the source's copyright guidelines.
Short RPGs:
No more than three 8.5”x11” pages
One piece per submission period.

Procedure Following Acceptance:
The creator signs a contract and receives information about how to invoice.
An editor edits the submission and provides a short edit letter celebrating your strengths and noting your weaknesses with actionable feedback.
The creator approves or disapproves edits and may provide comments.
We are not obligated to follow comments but will honor choices for edits.
All pieces will be collated and layout tweaked as necessary.

Wishlist:
We are looking for fiction, nonfiction and poetry inspired by your TTRPG experiences. Stories of events in and out of game are welcome. We want joyful and enriching stories. Horror stories of bad games may get accepted but we don't want to publish too many per issue.
